Autograph Letter Signed to Sir James Paget - 1890

Autograph Letter Signed to the great British surgeon, Sir James Paget. A fine 1-page letter, dated April 11, 1890. Page is somewhat toned, but the text is fully visible and overall in good condition. Nicely framed with a fine caricature portrait. Dodgson sends thanks to his friend, the legendary British surgeon and pathologist, James Paget (1814-1899). In full:

"Dear Sir James Paget, I am very grateful for your kind letter and advice. Believe me yours most truly, C.L. Dodgson."

Dr. Sir James Paget, best remembered for his discovery of "Paget's disease," had several other diseases named after him, and is considered to be the founder of scientific medical pathology.

CHARLES L. DODGSON (1832-1898), better known by the pen name LEWIS CARROLL, was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass as well as the poems "The Hunting of the Snark" and "Jabberwocky", all considered to be within the genre of literary nonsense. His facility at word play, logic, and fantasy has delighted audiences ranging from children to the literary elite, and beyond this his work has become embedded deeply in modern culture, directly influencing many artists.

As Stuart Dodgson Collingwood noted in his book The Life and Letters of Lewis Carroll: "Mr. Dodgson was singularly fortunate in his friends; whenever he was in difficulties on any technical matters, whether of religion, law, medicine, art, or whatever it might be, he always had some one especially distinguished in that branch of study whose aid he could seek as a friend. In particular, the names of...Sir James Paget occur to me; to the latter Mr. Dodgson addressed many letters on questions of medicine and surgery--some of them intricate enough, but never too intricate to weary the unfailing patience of the great surgeon."
