Eastern Air Lines engraved Stock Certificate dated May 1939 and issued to one of the company’s financial backers, the prominent investment firm Lehman Brothers; cancelled, with facsimile signature of the airline’s owner and first president, Eddie Rickenbacker, famed World War I flying ace.

This early certificate features a beautiful vignette of a Greek male figure next to the company logo with an airport in the background. In 1925 Lehman Brothers’ commitment to identifying growth industries led the firm to become active in the financing of airlines and motion picture companies as well as continuing their substantial support of the retailing industry.
