Presidential Land Grant issued in 1855 during the administration of Franklin Pierce, signed by a secretary. These “Homestead Certificates” were actually signed by American presidents up until around Andrew Jackson’s second term as president, when he turned the authority over to secretaries. Hence most land grants from subsequent presidents are secretarial-signed, as is ours. Regardless, they are still lovely historical mementos that display beautifully when framed.
