A lovely typed Italian postcard, rich with relevant content, signed by author Irving Stone, dated June 29, 1958 and postmarked Rome, sent to a friend after he had just published Men to Match My Mountains (1956). During this time Stone was living in Italy researching his next book, The Agony and the Ecstasy, a novel exploring the life of Michelangelo. The Italian government lauded Stone with several honorary awards for highlighting Italian cultural achievements in the book. Very good condition with notes in another hand.

Irving Stone (1903-1989) was an American writer, chiefly known for his biographical novels of noted artists, politicians and intellectuals. His best known works include The Agony and the Ecstasy (1961), a novel about Michelangelo; and Lust for Life (1934), about Vincent van Gogh. His non-fiction books include Clarence Darrow For the Defense (1941), the biography Stone mentions in this letter; and Men to Match My Mountains (1956), an account of the opening of the American Old West between 1840-1900, also mentioned in his note.
