Official Royal Portrait Signed - 1966
Regal vintage large format, matte-finish 10″ x 14″ full length portrait of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in fully medaled uniform as Admiral of the Fleet, signed boldly in the lower border in ink, “Philip 1966.” Portrait by Anthony Buckley, official photographer to the Royal Family, affixed to its original 13″ x 20″ mount, with photographer’s numbered studio stamp on verso. A distinguished portrait of the Prince Consort.
As is the tradition on all British Royal Navy ships, this is the actual official portrait that hung in the Officer’s Wardroom (Mess) aboard the destroyer “H.M.S. Glamorgan,” one of the ships engaged in the Falklands War in 1982. A notation on the reverse of the photograph establishes the provenance. The ship was decommissioned in 1986.
Modern bromide print from original negative, 1965, in fine condition. A similar original hangs in London’s National Portrait Gallery.
