The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian aid, relief and development nongovernmental organization. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution or natural disaster. The IRC works in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities where it resettles refugees and helps them become self-sufficient.

Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Jr., USN (1888-1957) was an American naval officer who specialized in feats of exploration. He was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. Aircraft flights, in which he served as a navigator and expedition leader, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, a segment of the Arctic Ocean, and parts of the Antarctic Plateau. Byrd was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for heroism given by the United States.
