Elvis Presley Signed Autograph Page - 1961

A beautiful autograph of The King in blue ballpoint pen, on a lightly toned autograph album page. An early fan magazine picture of Elvis has been affixed in the corner. On the reverse are pencil notations “Memphis, TN 02-61”.

On February 25, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee Governor Buford Ellington declared it Elvis Presley Day. At a luncheon in his honor, RCA Records presented Elvis with a diamond watch commemorating his 75 million records sold, and Elvis held a press conference. As part of the festivities, Elvis performed both an afternoon and an evening show at Ellis Auditorium to benefit a number of Memphis-area charities. Other than the Frank Sinatra television show, these shows were, up to that point, Elvis’ only live performances since his discharge from the US Army. A private party was held at Graceland later that evening.

The reverse side of this autograph notes the date February 1961, and was probably obtained on the 25th since, among others, it came to us from the collection of a Los Angeles record producer who very likely attended the Graceland party that evening—making this autograph an unusually poignant memento of one of rock n’ roll history’s greatest entertainers.
