John D. Rockefeller

Signed Standard Oil Stock Certificate - 1897

Engraved DS, signed by “H. M. Flagler,” one page both sides, 10.5″ x 7.5″, dated June 22, 1897. A green stock certificate, featuring a vignette of the U.S. Capitol, for one share of the Standard Oil Trust, issued to Blake Bros & Co, a New York brokerage company at the time. Later transferred to Caroline Helen Parrish, wife of Archibald Manning Brown, the architect who designed the famed Heinz Dome at the 1939 World’s Fair and the Harlem River Houses West in New York.

Henry M. Flagler (1830-1913) was a real estate and railroad entrepreneur and president of Standard Oil Company, which he co-founded with John D. Rockefeller and others in 1870. Flagler also set out to make Florida the “Newport of the South” by providing extensive rail access and grand hotels to lure wealthy vacationers.
