Truman Capote Signed LP Album “A Christmas Memory” - 1959

United Artists Records: 1959. A 33-1/3 rpm 12-inch High Fidelity vintage vinyl LP album of Capote reading his touching memoir A Christmas Memory, inscribed and signed “To Jack Lind, from Truman Capote 1959.” Jack Lind was a writer for Playboy magazine.

Truman Capote’s short story A Christmas Memory had initially appeared in Mademoiselle magazine in December 1956, was later reprinted in The Selected Writings of Truman Capote in 1963 and was issued in a stand-alone hardcover edition by Random House in 1966, and it has been published in many editions and anthologies since. Capote’s fame had grown significantly since the 1965 publication of his true crime “non-fiction novel” In Cold Blood, and readers were enthusiastic for more from this emerging literary giant.

The largely autobiographical story, which takes place in the 1930s, describes a period in the lives of the seven-year-old narrator and an elderly woman who is his distant cousin and best friend. The evocative narrative focuses on country life, friendship, and the joy of giving during the Christmas season, and it also gently yet poignantly touches on loneliness and loss.
