Autograph Letter Signed - 1882

Autograph letter signed by Prime Minister of Great Britain William Gladstone. Two pages, folded in fourths, 5 x 7.5 inches framed back-to-back, from the Prime Minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, to Sir Donald Horne Macfarlane, a Scottish merchant and Member of Parliament. Dated March 17, 1882, it reads where legible:

“Your letter, with the memorial which is enclosed reached me yesterday just in time for me to place it in Mr. (…) hands before his questions in the House of Commons. — I am sure I must (…) his explanation yesterday, in order to show how fully the important subject of Mr (…) had attracted the attention of the Government. —I remain (…) Your very faithful (…) / Wm. Gladstone”

Written and signed in black ink, with a single vertical letter fold, in fine to very fine condition. Framed in wood and glass.
